What began as a night of joy in Liverpool turned to chaos when a car drove into crowds celebrating the city's Premier League victory, injuring at least 27 people, including four children.
The incident occurred on Water Street in the heart of the city center, just steps away from the route of the official victory parade. Authorities confirmed that two people, including a child, are in serious condition.
A 53-year-old white British man has been arrested and is believed to be the driver. Merseyside Police say the incident is not being treated as terrorism-related, but the motive behind the attack remains unclear.
Witnesses described a terrifying scene as thousands of fans had gathered in the streets, waving flags and singing, when a black passenger vehicle suddenly sped into the crowd.

“We were like sardines walking down the street. Then we heard shouting, and when we looked, the car was coming straight at us. Me and my friend Francesca jumped aside. I’m still shaking,” said one eyewitness, speaking to local media.
Another onlooker, who was watching the parade from a nearby flat, said she heard screaming from the street as people scrambled to safety and others tried to stop the driver.
“It was mayhem. People were chasing the car and trying to break into it. The police did everything they could. It was like something out of a nightmare,” she told Sky News.
Emergency services responded within minutes, treating the wounded on the scene before rushing them to nearby hospitals.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the scenes “horrifying” and said he is receiving constant updates. “My thoughts are with all those who were injured or affected,” he said in a statement. “I want to thank the police and emergency teams for their quick and tireless work. We must now give them the space they need to complete their investigation.”
The celebration had drawn tens of thousands to Liverpool’s streets after the city’s team clinched the Premier League title in a dramatic season finish.
Police have asked anyone with video footage or information to come forward.
